Ayayayay...waiting was so difficult!  But just a few more sleeps and we'll be at it again, playing on Week 2 this coming Sunday.  Are you ready?  Have you had your practice for the week?  Have you done your physical conditioning ala Rocky Balboa?  Do you hear the Rocky theme music playing?  Hala, let's rock!

But first, here are a few important announcements.  Don't worry, since this is a Pahabol blog, I will follow up the serious stuff with a "getting to know you" quiz: no time limit but no grading and no prizes, just entertainment!

ANNOUNCEMENTS:
  • For all upcoming weeks including the Finals, it is important for us to arrive at Limerick Bowl no later than 5:15 pm because practice will start automatically at 5:20 pm.  Since our rules stipulate that play starts at 5:30 pm, the lanes are being set-up to automatically start our practice time of 10 minutes by 5:20 pm.  No wonder we were rushed last week!  I provided feedback that we were not informed of the automatic start.  Now we know....  When you come into Limerick Lanes this Sunday, check your lane assignments on the bulletin boards near the entrance and get ready to bowl.  No time to waste!
  • Please put your bowling fee payments into the envelopes by the end of the first game.  You can pay by credit card at the front desk, they will give you a receipt and a printout to place into the envelope.  Huwag niyo na akong hintaying kulitin kayo, please lang.  Even if your Team Captains are charged with collecting monies, you know you need to pay, so why wait for a reminder?  Paki-explain...labyu!
  • Please also note how your bowling fees have been neatly and correctly recorded for Week 1 in the envelopes (by none other than my beloved Donna Roberts), and kindly follow suit (make gaya-gaya) when you record the current week's payments accordingly.  Let me know if you have questions on this: call my name and I'll be there...baka mainit nga lang ang ulo ko dahil napoknat mo ako sa bowling, but I'll be there, coz I'm here for you (naks)!
  • Please call Limerick Bowl in advance at 610-495-7143 when you are planning to practice and/or prebowl.  There is a chance they have lanes available at a more convenient time for you, plus you can ensure that lanes are waiting for you when you arrive (they will be pristine "virgin" lanes, when you are prebowling).  Call days in advance or the morning of; call before you go, especially if you live a distance away.
  • I will be prebowling for this Week 2 Sunday due to a conflicting appointment.  You will be in the able hands of the better half of JC Squared, my Go Papa Joel C of Team Atis, until I arrive later in the evening.  Kasasabi ko lang na I'll be there, tapos wala pala ako...BUT I will be there, eventually, just not at 5:15 pm!
I also wanted to acknowledge that we presented Chris, Limerick Bowl's League Manager with a bottle of wine from Philly Pinoy Madam President Mitchie Masanga, on behalf of Philly Pinoy, in appreciation of their sponsoring the Free Open Bowl Event for us on August 3.  We bravely pursued a new venue for this year, but the experiment appears to have paid off.  For statistics buffs and inquiring minds, we actually have seventeen (17) new players who did not play in last year's MFL, which includes seven (7) who have never played in a Philly Pinoy league previously (hmm, future quiz question...).  The scores from Week 1 seem quite higher overall than those recorded in last year's league: gumagaling tayo, yebah

QUIZ TIME = MFL Style!!!  Kay tagal kong nagmuni-muni sa mga itatanong ko sa inyo.  It is still hard for me to remember all the teams and team captains and team members: very challenging!  How well do you know the players of the 2014 MFL?  Can you remember who are in each of your MFL Teams?  Grab pen and paper (and kodigo, if available) and let's give it a shot!  Answers (with some chismis at kwento) are given at the bottom.

  1. This player was all alone on Sunday coz his teammates prebowled.  Who is he (he played magnificently, by the way), who are his teammates and what team are they on?
  2. Who is the anchor of Team Bayabas ("What is bayabas?" he asked Joel C) and who are his teammates?
  3. Which team are the Coopers (married couple) part of?  Who is their team captain?
  4. In which team is Madam Prez Mitchie playing in?
  5. She is the lady bowler of Team Santol...idol!
  6. Lolet and Lino bowl with ______ in Team ______.
  7. ____ is the Bowlinator anchor of Team Guyabano.

  9. Mabangis (na amoy), matinik, nguni't super sarap! Team Durian! Who is their anchor?
  10. Who were our father and son absentee duo (vacant score last week), and what teams are they on?
  11. It's red, it's round, it's hairy: RAMiscal RAMbutan, para madaling matandaan! Who are Olee's teammates?
  12. Matinik din and prutas na ito, at sadyang mabigat: who are the bigatins of Team Langka? Heavy, pare!
  13. Blue! Blue! What team is Blue on with Grace and Dennis?

Till then: Bowl, baby, bowl!!!

QUIZ ANSWER KEY:
  1. Edwin Sanchez of Team Suha, walang luha.  His teammates who both prebowled are Roy Compendio and Eden Paredes.
  2. Paolo Quimbo, who had the highest scratch score last week of 247.  His teammates in Team Bayabas are Desi Mercado (gumagaling, gumagaling, kumakasa na!)  and Mila Sanggalang.
  3. Team Duhat (I am remembering Brenda singing "Duhat nang kita'y masilayan").  Brenda del Rosario Cooper, my godsister, is the Team Captain, para pwedeng magtagalog daw.  She plays with her towering hubby Jeff Cooper and new junior bowler Victor Ficarra (absentee).
  4. Mangga Masanga! Mitchie Masanga plays in Team Mangga, our Week 1 opponents, with Jon Cainglet and Lowen Gono.
  5. Team Santol's anchor is Alice Deo, playing with Team Captain Commish Jay Lizardo and Ed Nicolas.  Their individual averages were within 3 pins of each other: amazing!
  6. Go Papa!  JC Squared's better half, Joel Capucao, is at the helm of Team Atis.  His coaching of his teammates Lino Matamis (his BBQ us to die for, talap!) and Lolet Pike (athlete extraordinaire) paid off dividends last week.  Ako lang daw ang hindi nakikinig sa kanya...
  7. Romy Liboon plays with teammates String/Chona Aquino and Marlon Paed (our carpool buddy) in Team Guyabano.
  8. Clap one, Pakwan!  Chelo Compendio plays with Edmer Sotomango (team captain) and Ivan Masanga on this team.  I commented to Ivan that his stellar play last week garnered him an average higher than Mitchie's: looking good!
  9. July Boca (hindi siya sumasagot sa Julio...) plays with Giovie Young and Paul Ficarra (absent).  Bakit daw durian, mabantot yon...sabi ko, ayaw niyo noon?  Matinik, mabangis, matamis....
  10. Paul Ficarra plays in  Team Durian, while son Victor plays with the Coopers in Team Duhat (nang kita'y masilayan).
  11. Jun Young and Rosie Cainglet are Olee Ramiscal's teammates in Team Rambutan.  Rosie and Jon Cainglet used to play in the Philly Pinoy winter league: welcome back!
  12. Matitinik nga po!  Team Langka has Angie Sotomango, Rico Lontoc (team captain) and Rolly Hernandez.  Kalaban ng Papaya sa linggo, hala!
  13. Chico chico boom boom: Blue Sapalaran, Grace Que (matriarch of the emergent bowling dynasty) and Dennis Navarrete (sandbagger like me) are in Team Chico.
  14. James and Gabriel Que are my teammates in Team Papaya: I owe you guys, I shall return!
  15. Lanie Santos and Jojo Sanggalang are Joel D's teammates in Team Lansones.  Lalasunin tayo ng Lansones, and lakas ng team na ito!
