Week 8 Halloween Bowl-O-WIN!!!

No pictures yet (to be posted later) but oh, what a sight it was to see at Limerick Bowl this weekend, November 1, the 8th week of our 2015 Philly Pinoy Mixed Fall League (MFL), when the MFL participants had our Halloween costume dress-up day.  We had curly hair, sideburns, 70s hippies, 80s Material Girls, super heroes galore, and an almost complete Village People line-up!  Super wowowee!

And the super cool costumes were matched by super cool and ultra awesome bowling during our scheduled matches.  It was a true Bowl-O-Win extravaganza with more than a dozen players turning pro, and finally, our first female 200 clubber this year!  There were many position changes in the rankings once more, making the next few weeks look even more exciting.

Here are the fantabowlous highlights of our MFL Week 8 Bowl-O-Win matches.

Lanes 21-22:  We welcome brand new MFL player Oscar Borjal to the Singkamas team, playing with Mila and JoelC.  Team Singkamas was up against a super red hot Patola team, with Dennis, Lanie and Edwin’s prebowl.  OMG, all of Team Patola had games above their averages, such that their combined firepower could not be overcome by team Singkamas.  Dennis plays 20 pins above average!  Lanie gets a 202 score, first female 200-clubber, yebah! Edwin plays a fantabulous 44 pins above average with a 204 game and 195 average!  Patola sweeps Singkamas 4-0.  Patola jumps from 7th to 5th place, while Singkamas drops from 4th to 7th place.

Lanes 23-24: It was mighty confusing from a scoring perspective with Team Sibuyas (Lino, Lolet and JoelD) up against Team Upo with Mitchie and sub Jops Datu (Jun and Edmer were absent).  But after careful calculations (kalkal-ations, if performed on scratch paper or like chicken scratch…) later confirmed by the Limerick Bowl website results, Team Sibuyas actually took 3 points, winning games 1 and 2 and total pins.  Team Upo takes one point by winning game 3 with a 223 game from Jops.  JoelD had an awesome series with two 200 games and a 209 average for the night!  It is a win for Sibuyas against Upo 3-1.  Upo drops from 1st to 4th while Sibuyas jumps from 11th to 8th place.  Sibuyas made Upo cry, and Upo could not sit…get? (mababaw, pagbigyan)

Lanes 25-26: Solid play from Alice, Jon and Roy of Team Sitaw allowed them to score 3 points against Team Labanos, with Ed playing with July’s prebowl scores and with a still recovering Rosie cheering him on.  Sitaw had to concede game 1 but came back strong to win games 2 and  3 and total pins from Labanos.  Sitaw jumps from 2nd to top spot (number one, baby!), while Labanos moves from 10th to 11th spot.

Lanes 27-28: The most pungent and flavorful veggies were battling on these lanes: Bawang and Luya!  It appears to have been a true battle royale, a fight to the finish with awesome firepower emanating from both sides. While the muses Chelo (Bawang) and Gigi (Luya) seem to have struggled, their male compatriots unleashed their awesome bowling prowess, with pro-level performances from Luya’s Atit and Nonoy (uy, inspired…) and from Bawang’s Jojo (wow, solid!).  We were seeing stars with JQ James once again (two 200 games!), even if he did not have a 600 series like he aims for every week: a 500 series is disappointing now for our top male player!  I am proud of Team Luya for having their payment envelope ready early: bravo!  Atit, you dance a mean running man, bow….belated Happy Birthday!  Luya wins over Bawang 3-1.  Luya goes from 3rd to 2nd place, while Bawang moves from 9th to 10th place.

Lanes 29-30: We had a new sub Delia Heater playing for Giovie (get well soon!) in Team Kamatis with Raul and Paolo.  Team Kamatis was up against hungry Team Mustasa with Grace, Paul and Blue.  It was another confusing scoring situation, but my careful kalkal-ations as confirmed by Limerick’s scoring show a tied match, with games 1 and 2 going to Mustasa (game 2 won by 4 pins!) and game 1 and total pins going to Kamatis.  It is a tie 2-2 between Mustasa (still in 12th place) and Kamatis (change from 8th to 9th place).

Lanes 31-32:  Team Talong strived hard to win their 4 points against the ghost team Linga, which Marlon, Eden and Rico were able to do!  They were loud, they were cheering each other on.  It was inspiring to watch, such great team spirit!  As they say, “habang may Linga, may pag-asa” (while there is Linga, there is hope).  How else can you get 4 points with relative ease?  The emphasis is on the word “relative”: sometimes it is harder than others!  Talong jumps (you get?) to 3rd from 5th place. Good job!

Lanes 33-34:  Truly these lanes felt like they were in another planet (Mars?).  It was too far, too hot, and I was too stiff, too distracted, whoa, too many excuses…  My Kalabasa Team (with Desi and Gabe) was up against Team Patani (Rolly, Chona and Romy).  Romy and I had a good practice session at the Palace that morning, so I was feeling good.  Romy of Patani started off hot, but OMG, I was dismal, I was pathetic, I was 40 pins below average, so since we lost by 20+ pins, I am to be blamed for our losing that first game (sad…).  Madonna came to play in game 1 (prompting Marlon to tell Eden that she was playing better than me!), but thank goodness, the BowlStar showed up in the 2nd game, so Kalabasa took the rest.  My teammates both turned pro! Desi Patilya had the power of side burns = hanep! Gabe had his Wonder Kid powers = unbelievabowl! Rolly of Patani had the power of Sky Flakes, bringing true Sky Flakes imported from the Philippines, resulting in some crispy strikes, especially after wiping the oil from his ball (TLC, himas himas diyan…) = whoo hee!  Poor Chona struggled after the first game, may have been the hippie hair.  Kalabasa wins 3-1 against Patani.  Both teams stay at their former positions, Kalabasa at 6th, Patani at 13th place.

Hard to believe but we have only five (5) more weeks left in our season.  It hardly feels like November with warm weather in the forecast!  But oh it is quite dark quite early now with Daylight Savings Time no longer in effect.  Drive safely, everybody, especially to and from the lanes.

Y'all looked pretty darn awesome in costume and played scary good this weekend.  Pix to be posted soon.  In the meantime, here is my super emoting (Famas!) vampire look: I hope it scares up some good games going into the last few weeks of our season! I'm ready for my close-up...

Bowl, baby, BOWL!!!
