GRAND FINALE NIGHT INFO:
Excitement
is building up towards a Grand Finale to the 2015 Philly Pinoy Mixed Fall
League, scheduled this coming Sunday, December 6 at Limerick Bowl. The Grand Finale will be Week 13 in regulation play for our 13-week season, where we get to face the only league team we have yet
to play in a battle for team rankings and their corresponding cash prizes!
Here is a
quick primer on this upcoming Sunday’s Grand Finale Night:
- Please come by around 5:00 PM with a dish to share. Our potluck celebration dinner will be held at the Limerick Bowl party room prior to practice and match play commencing. All participants, substitutes and family and friends are welcome to join the celebration.
- Remember to come in team attire: simplest is to all dress in the same color shirts, which hopefully has some relevance to your team name (but not required)! As always, please no bahag…
- We shall start practice no later than 5:45 PM: the later we start, the later we shall finish. Prizes shall be awarded at the Awards Ceremony in the Party Room right after our Grand Finale Night matches.
Our
scheduled matches and the team rankings after Week 12 going into the Grand Finale
Night are summarized here. Are you
game? Let’s get ready to rumble!

MFL WEEK 12 HIGHLIGHTS
In true
MFL fashion, this Sunday, Week 12, November 29, was truly nail-bitingly exciting. We proved that we know how to set the stage,
intended or not, for a fight to the finish, as margins continued to narrow and
teams continued to switch ranks. Certain
participants took the advice to “play well tonight” to heart, exhibiting unbowlievably
stellar play worthy of individual awards at our Grand Finale Night.
There were
a couple of Kulambo (mosquito net) Battles (a.k.a. Giyera de Patani or Lima
Bean Battles) tonight, as the Deos and the Youngs duked it out on the lanes
with their respective teams. I am
calling it for the women, I am sure you will agree!
Lanes
21-22: OMD, as in Oh My Deo!!! The Deo Kulambo Battle ensued and we are
awestruck by the firepower from this bowling power couple! JoelD of Sibuyas has been consistently strong
but he turned pro today. Not to be
outdone, AliceD of Sitaw had a night for the ages: 225 first game, 197 average
and 593 series (almost tied hubby JoelD’s 595 series…). Fabowlous, yeah! First game was won by Sitaw, second game was
a tie, third game was won by Sibuyas with a 23-pin margin, based on stellar
play from Lino, Lolet and Joel of Sibuyas.
But the win goes to Sitaw, with Roy’s solid play, a pro-turn from Jon,
and Alice’s star turn. OMD indeed!
Lanes
23-24: The
Young Kulambo Battle resulted in solid play and some stellar games from Jun of
Upo and Giovie of Kamatis (welcome back!).
The scores reflect some struggles on the lanes for both teams, but in
the end, 200 games from Paolo’s prebowl seem to have won games 1 and 3 for Raul,
Giovie and Paolo of Kamatis, while Jun and Mitchie of Upo (with Edmer’s blind) took
second game and total pins. It is a tie
between Upo and Kamatis.
Lanes
25-26: Jojo,
Chelo and James of Bawang win 4 points against the ghost team Linga, as James
pintastically increased his already insurmountable lead as top male player with
another pro level night.
Lanes
27-28: Nonoy
and Gigi of Luya were solidly consistent playing with Atit’s blind against a
hot Team Patani. Chona and Romy of Patani
played close to their averages while Rolly turned pro (naks…)! It is a win 3-1 for Patani against Luya. Thank you, guys (bad…sorry, my horns are showing).
Lanes
29-30: Eden,
Marlon and Rico continued their meteoric rise up the rankings in their battle against
Rosie and July of Labanos (Ed was absent).
Carpool buddy Marlon had another pro week, yebah! Some future organizers of the MFL were
playing on these lanes, naks! Talong
takes three points from Labanos.
Lanes
31-32: Grace and Blue of Mustasa were playing with
Paul’s blind against Mila and JoelC of Singkamas, with sub Robert. Grace had an awesome 187 on game 1, which was
better than Blue’s 186, naks! It was
looking like a sweep from Mustasa (203 from Blue in game 2! Grace turned pro!),
but Mila stole the show with a 190 in game 3, securing a point for
Singkamas. Mustasa wins 3-1 against
Singkamas, but Singkamas actually won its first point since Week 7. Go Mila!
Lanes
33-34: Dennis and Edwin of Patola were minus Lanie
(blind) against Desi, Gabe and Jing of Kalabasa. Gabe won game 1 for Kalabasa with a 147,
yeah! Dennis was formidable, winning
game 2 for Patola with a 191, hanep! Desi
was razor sharp and consistent, turning pro once more, wow! Edwin and I struggled, man oh man. I could not get my spares, and my pocket hits
left splits. I could not hit my average and was ready to retire until I decided
on game 3 to move right and started hitting Brooklyn strikes: whatever
works! By the 10th frame of
the last game, it was within 20 pins, but my teammates came through, and we had
it won before my turn. I only had open
frames and strikes on that last game, a lone spare and strike in the last frame gave me a 203:
yeah, baby! Kalabasa wins 3-1 against Patola.
