- On lanes 13-14 was our marquee matchup of Team GOTO vs Team BALUT with Joel Capucao vs Jing Capucao - it is a duel between husband and wife anchors!
- Ivan and Mitchie Masanga in Teams TAPSILOG and LAPULAPU respectively were battling it out on lanes 17-18.
- The MONAY vs PISBOL matchup (the top two teams from Week 4!) on lanes 19-20 had Edwin and Susan Sanchez head to head.
Wear Pink on Oct 20! Lots of folks came in tonight with pink shirts and accessories to celebrate October as Breast Cancer awareness month. It was such a cool sight, coz we do look good in shocking pink, don't we? Please keep the touches of pink going all month long. However, let us especially make sure we come and create a sea of pink shirts, pink pants, pink socks and all other accessories (wigs, tutus and boas, anyone?) in full force on October 20 (two weeks from now), as this will be our official WEAR PINK day for the league. Our official photographer, May Libo-on, will be on hand to capture all the rosy pink kodak moments for posterity, so mark the date!
Halloween Night Nov 3: While we are talking about fashionable attire, please start preparing your bowl-worthy Halloween costumes for our MFL costume party on November 3. Since we are scheduling this after Halloween, you can get your costume cheaper from the post-Halloween sales, no excuses! Come on, it is a great way to shock and scare your opponents (and embarass your team mates) on our last week of regulation play before the finals. Hmmmm...
Marquee Match Play-by-Play: Back to our Week 5 marquee matchup of GOTO vs BALUT. Team GOTO is comprised of Eden Paredes and Ryan Ablaza who both last played in the Annual Philly Pinoy Winter Bowling League last year (2012). Their team captain is no other than my own GoPapa Joel, our MFL Co-Chair, who has the highest scratch scores to date on our league (252 last week and 242 from Week 3, hanep!).

Ryan had pre-bowled the day before, so only Eden and Joel were present to play, decked in their green uniforms. Edmer, Lowen and I were in our Balut Blue uniforms, although we accessorized with pink bandanas tied round their necks for the guys and an assortment of pink things for me (headband/hair tie, fingerless Madonna glove, sweat band, wrist band). Grace from ADOBO in the next lane later commented that we looked like the farmer (magsasaka: Lowen with the bandana tied in front of neck like a boy scout) , bandit (magnanakaw/bandido: Edmer with the bandana tied in the back of his neck, ready to cover his face!) and ??? (me, the driver of getaway car! or prosti....). We were the Balut Bandits, ready to steal a win!
Bandidong BALUT (L-R): Edmer Sotomango and Lowen Gono
Oh, but it did not look good for BALUT in that first game, with Eden starting out with strike after strike: Turkey! Spare! More strikes! Oh, spare me! Hanep sa laro ng idol ko, it was the Eden Paredes Show: what a sight to see her play so well, she ended up with a whopping 188 game, way to go! Thank goodness, Bandido Edmer was bowling up a storm himself, so we were able to keep up, pin by pin. Lowen was throwing some good balls, but had an unfortunate foul after a spare, which would haunt him all night. Both Joel and I were struggling to read the lanes and get our groove, could not get game, but when it got down to the tenth frame, we as anchors had fate in our hands. It came down to my last ball, third ball in the tenth frame and down by eight pins. I had gotten a near strike that left one pin, so it should have been in the bag, but lo and behold, my ball left me a baby split (3,10-split). It's a dead tie! Half-point each, unbelievable! NO ONE is outside the kulambo yet!
Game 2 became the Edmer Sotomango Show, as the Balut Bandit showed his mettle with a 184 game. The rest of us fought on but played below our averages. So in the end, Edmer's stellar performance gave BALUT a win. Magnanakaw ang mga Bandidong Balut, yeah, baby!
At this point, Angie of TAPSILOG came over, like she did last week when my game was nowhere to be found. I had not shown up, my evil twin was playing, as Angie tried to set me straight and remind me to fight and find it within me to play better (kaya mo yan!). Talagang I am surrounded by bowling angels, coz sure enough I started finding my focus, making good decisions, and playing better in the third game.
Lowen was out-bowling Edmer and me throughout the third game, he played above average and ended up with a 145 game. Eden continued her excellent play = what a great night for her (149 average for the night)! My GoPapa Joel was showing signs of getting his game back, we had to keep up! It came down to the dueling anchors once again, with the difference in the tenth frame at around 20-30 pins only, still anyone's game. Alas, my GoPapa Joel missed his spare in the 10th frame, my heart broke for him. I ending up throwing two strikes and an 8, and BALUT wins its first match! Mabuhay ang BALUT! Sumisipa na ang SISIW sa loob ng BALUT!

A trend started emerging as the results of the other Giyera de Patani matches became available: in the Kulambo Battles, the gayuma of the gals reign supreme! BALUT wins over GOTO (Jing vs Joel), LAPU-LAPU wins over TAPSILOG (Mitchie vs Ivan), and last but not least PISBOL wins over MONAY (Sansu vs Edwin, with Edwin regretting the coaching that Sansu so ably executed!) = the evidence speaks for itself this week.
The lucky winner of $40 from our 50/50 raffle was JP of Team KROPEK. The tickets were sold by String Aquino, Philly Pinoy Treasurer = thank you!

Thank you also for the delicious food brought by the Libo-on family to celebrate Romy's birthday. The birthday boy got serenaded by the entire league = Happy Birthday!

We have passed the half-way mark of our MFL League and have only four weeks remaining in regulation play before our finals on November 17. More exciting matchups coming up, the standings change every week, and with the teams quite evenly matched, it is anybody's game. My beloved Team BALUT is still in the bottom with no place to go but up = momentum is with us!
Watch out for the pahabol blog. Have a great week, everybody! Bowl, baby, bowl!
