Last
Sunday, October 25, 2015 was Week 7 of the Philly Pinoy Mixed Fall League
(MFL). This marked the halfway point of
our 13 week 2015 season, which means it was the Bahay Kubo Halftime Show!
Golly gee
OMG
Is it really true?
Whachagonna do?
Seven weeks already past
Time is passing by too fast
Rankings changing every week
Who shall fall and who shall peak
Bravely fighting for each pin
Together striving for each win
Six more weeks till season’s end
Finals just around the bend
Guess what
else is around the bend (or shall I say, already here)? Our Bowloween is this Sunday, November 1, and the whole league shall come
to bowl decked in some scary good Halloween costumes! How perfect, since Halloween will be over and
we can get our costumes for bargain basement sale prizes. Of course you can recycle yesteryear’s
costumes to demonstrate true Pinoy frugality: matipid, nothing beats free! But please, no bahag or other PG, R or X rated attire. The league is strictly Rated G (and I don’t mean
Gaga), please have mercy on the onlookers, thank you!
Hmm, I
seem to have a fixation on bahag, as
I keep mentioning it in the blog (and in emails, and verbally…). Are male buttocks titillating to me? Well, actually, I find the act of blogging
the words “bahag” and “male buttocks”
quite titillating. Also the word "titillating" is super titillating, nagtititili ako sa titillating…so there! (Mababaw…pagbigyan niyo na…)
So here
are the highlights of the Bahay Kubo Halftime Show, Week 7 of the MFL!
Lanes
21-22: It was a split down to the wire
between Team Upo (Mitchie and Edmer with Jun’s blind) and Team Labanos (Ed and
July with Rosie’s prebowl). After Games
1 and 2 were narrowly won by Team Upo (8 pins! 4 pins!), Team Labanos turned
into rampaging radishes with Ed above average at 135, a huge 154 for Rosie and a
whopping 201 from July, resulting in a huge Game 3 margin and total pins going
to Labanos. Way to go! Pareng Ed, it is great to see you on the lanes! Rosie, miss you! With the two points, Team Upo now sits at the
#1 spot. Upo = sit, get it? If you don’t get it, forget it, never had it….
It is a tie 2-2 between Upo and Labanos.
Lanes
23-24: My Team Kalabasa was up against Team Mustasa. Only Desi and I were present (Gabe was
absent) and only Blue was present for Team Mustasa (Grace and Paul were
absent). Wow, Blue was a tough opponent,
even with Desi and me ganging up on him!
Each game was super close, too close for comfort. Blue kept stringing strikes, Desi was
throwing strikes of his own, and I was trying to keep up with a few “crispy”
strikes of my own. The Filipino word is malutong = lumalagutok! In other words,
Sky Flakes: malutong kahit anong ipatong….
All night, Desi kept having to convert the darn 7 pin, so glad he is a
sparemaster, whoo hoo! But as luck would
have it, Mustasa won game 1 by 26 pins (how to get 30+pins in one frame? no dice…),
while Kalabasa took game 2 by 34 pins, game 3 by 11 pins and total pins by only
19 pins. Try to say this many times quickly:
Kalabasa at saka Mustasa hachacha! (Mababaw…pagbigyan niyo na…) Kalabasa beats Mustasa, 3-1.
Lanes
25-26: Do you remember doing an elementary school science project with lima
beans (patani) soaked in water, where you watch the beans sprout and grow? Well, Team Patani is ALIVE! There was a much awaited sprout of pure bowling
genius this weekend with Team Patani (Chona, Romy and Rolly’s prebowl) winning
two games against a solid Team Sibuyas with Lino, Lolet and their anchor turned
pro Joel D who scored a 560 series. Romy’s
timing is back: opponents beware! It is
a tie 2-2 between Patani and Sibuyas.
Lanes
27-28: Team Singkamas with Mila and GoPapa JoelC (and vacant score) were lucky
to win Game 1 against a red hot Team Kamatis, that had Raul and Paolo (with
Giovie’s prebowl scores) all bowling a combined 50 pins above their averages! Mercy,
mercy! So this is what happens when Raul
comes to bowl after Florida State suffers a devastating loss on the football
field: go Noles! Get well soon, Giovie,
we miss you! It is Kamatis winning 3-1
over Singkamas.
Lanes
29-30: Alice, Jon and Roy of Team Sitaw outbowled themselves and won four
points against the ghost Team Linga to take the #2 spot: yebah! Sitaw sweeps
Linga 4-0.
Lanes
31-32: After a solid start, winning game
1, Team Luya with Atit and Nonoy (and Gigi’s prebowl) had to concede against
the overwhelming firepower unleashed upon them by Dennis, Lanie and Edwin of Team
Patola. Love their spirit, Atit and
Nonoy were still smiling while they were getting clobbered. Dennis and Atit appear to be dead tied for Extreme
Exponential Improvement (a.k.a. Sandbagger) of the Year, although Dennis had
the edge with his stellar series this week: super wow! It is a win for Patola 3-1 over Luya.
Lanes
33-34: Don’t these lanes feel like they
are in another continent? Too far from the rest of us…but not far enough from the pungent smell of
WINGS! It was Team Bawang with Jojo and
Chelo (James was absent) against Team Talong with Marlon, Eden and Rico. Jojo turned pro and bowled up a storm! Eden started slow but exponentially ignited! With
a hot and cold mix of angst and solid play from Chelo, Marlon and Rico, it was
a split 2-2 between Bawang and Talong.
