blogging: I am energized and committed to succeed with this endeavor!

REMINDER before I go into Week 3 details: Week 4 theme this coming OCT 4 is

Let us show our solidarity by making the bowling lanes a sea of all
lovely shades of pink, as we have in previous years!
So as
promised, here is the MFL 2015 Week 3 blog, a few days after the Week 2 blog,
and right before the Week 4 blog. Life
is good and all is right with the world.
The blog title reads like a newspaper article. Extra! Extra! Read all about it! So like a news reporter, I shall state the
facts and pepper my reporting with relevant statistics, just to bring out my
inner journalist and celebrate my unabashed nerdiness (can flow charts be far
behind? huwag nawa…).
Pope Mania
hit the Philadelphia weekend on SEP 26 and SEP 27, 2015. The MFL 2015 Week 3 on
SEP 27 had originally been scheduled as a bye week for the league until a
decision was made over the Labor Day weekend to make this MFL season 13 weeks
long, with each team scheduled to play all opposing teams. With the Pope coming
to town, JC Squared, organizers of the MFL, were aware that massive prebowls could
and would occur so that the MFL players could participate in the historic
event. JC Squared was among the
countless Philly pholks caught up in Pope Mania, and were among the MFL
participants that prebowled for MFL Week 3.
The preceding months, weeks and days in the Capucao household had been
spent scrambling to prepare house and home for guests driving up from North Carolina
to see the Pope, one reason why blogging in the past few weeks was difficult at
best for your BowlStar blogger. But what
a rewarding experience this weekend truly was!
We were blessed with the presence of dear old friends, blessed by the
presence of Pope Francis, blessed by the entire Pope in Philly experience, and
the MFL appears quite blessed with some super amazing performances as well this
historic weekend.

Here come the statistics!
Of the 39
MFL participants, only 17 played live on Week 3, SEP 27 (44% attendance). Of the 22 absent players, 21 prebowled (54% of the league)
and we had one player with blind score (absent with no prebowl scores).
This blog
would be quite short if I decided to talk about those players that did not do
well this weekend. But hey, that is not
how we roll…. We were blessed with great
performances indeed, with 13 of the 39 participants turning into prowpeyshownahl
amateurs, meaning that the league was 33% PRO on Week 3. We also had 18 participants that were stellar
as Shining Stars (MFL was 46% shiny), such that a whopping 31 participants out
of 39 were truly fantabowlous on Week 3.
This means that I will be heralding 79% of you in this one blog due to
your spectacular games! How cool is
that? Bravo, MFL, for a truly amazing Week
3 showing!
JC Squared
had prebowled but we came at around 6:30 PM to see how everyone was doing, to
practice and to collect the score sheets for the week. Donna Roberts at the front desk remarked that
our league is amazing, as the payment envelopes were provided IMMEDIATELY after
she requested them: so proud of you guys!
Here is a
rundown of the match-ups and outcomes for MFL Week 3:
On lanes
21-22, my Kalabasa team (with my prebowl scores and Desi and Gabe present) was
up against team Upo which had Edmer’s prebowl scores and Jun and Mitchie
present. Hmm, only the anchors prebowled… Desi had another Kala-Booyah type of night (yebah!
206 on Game 2! 200 clubber, baby!) and Gabe came alive on Game 2 with a 158
score (go Wonder Kid!), but with Edmer’s 206 prebowl score on Game 3 and heroic
efforts from Mitchie and Jun, Kalabasa squashes three points while Upo sits solid
with one point from Game 3.
On lanes
23-24 were my favorite lines from the Bahay Kubo song: Labanos – Mustasa! Oh, and it was a bloody battle of the pros! Mustasa’s
Grace and Labanos’ July both had terrific prebowl scores. From Mustasa, Blue was on fire and Paul continued
his solid play with scores in the 160-170s (go my champion Bowlinator teammates
in the Winter League! Smells like a repeat in the making…). From
Labanos, Ed completely outdid himself while Rosie had progressively higher
scores with each game. So close, so
close! But Labanos seems destined to get robbed of a point each week: the Most
Valuable Patola (MVP) Lanie staged a split for Patola where Labanos could have
won last week, and this week 7 more pins could have given Labanos the split
(that was the difference in total pins), but they instead come away with one
point. Oh the humanity! Mustasa takes three from Labanos: tres cha-chas
for the muchacha y muchachos of Muschacha: hacheche, hachacha, cha cha cha! Andale andale! Yo ablo um poquito
poquimon y poqui mo, ayayay!
On lanes
25-26, only Michael played live for team Singkamas (Joel C and Mila prebowled)
while Chelo and James played live for team Bawang with Jojo’s prebowl
scores. Michael was on fire! Jojo, Chelo and Mila were rock solid! It was a great team turnout for the Turnip
team, with Mila and Michael exploding in Game 1, Michael fantastic in Game 2
and Joel C churning out the week’s high score of 238 on the third game = sweep! Poor James of Bawang was seeing stars of the knock-out
kind…oh, to be disappointed with a 500 series after a string of 600s, but don’t
count him out coz the season is still young!
On lanes
27-28, Rico was bowling all by his lonesome.
His Talong teammates Marlon and Eden had prebowled, while the opposing team
with Rolly-Patani (sorry, can’t stop myself), Chona-Patani (ooh, I like that
too!) and Romy-Patani (wow, winner rin!)
had all prebowled. As he later stated,
it was really difficult bowling alone! So
difficult, he had a bad slump in the second game (forgot how to bowl!). With strong performances from the prebowl
crowd, Patani and Talong split points, two apiece.
Present
versus Absent was the theme on lanes 29-30, where Team Sitaw had perfect
attendance (gold star!) with Alice, Jon and Roy playing live against Team Luya’s
prebowl scores from Atit, Gigi and Nonoy.
Team Sitaw put in marvelous performances, mind you, they were not
slacking at all, but those prebowl scores from Luya, my oh my! Not sure what team Luya ate to bowl so great
during their prebowl, whatever it was, give us some of that! Gigi with a
152! Nonoy with a 500 series! Man oh man, Atit was ridonkulous! With an average for Week 3 that was a whopping
34 pins above his previous average, ATIT of Luya is this week’s PLAYER OF THE
WEEK as the Luyang Nagpaluha
(translation is literally “ginger that induced crying”). Diyos na
mahabagin… (merciful God). You guys
were truly blessed this past week. Sitaw
steals Game 1 but concedes three points to the Luya-lites.
Lanes
31-32 remained virgin (unplayed on) as Team Patola had prebowl scores from
Dennis, Lanie and Edwin against blind/ghost team Linga. It was a sweep with Dennis and Lanie playing
close to their averages and Edwin playing at a remarkable 32 pins above his
previous average! My golly!
And
finally on lanes 33-34, it was Giovie playing live for team Kamatis (with prebowl
scores from Raul and Paolo) and Joel D playing live for team Sibuyas (with
prebowl scores from Lino and blind scores for Lolet). In a nutshell, the Tomatoes made the Onions
cry, as team Kamatis sweeps team Sibuyas.
Here comes
the parade of stars, an accounting of the super fabowlous and amazingly pintastic
performances from our MFL participants this week, and there are many noteworthy
performances, as the statistics showed. Take
a deep breath and maybe a short bathroom break as this will take a while to
read…so much to celebrate!
FYI, I
deleted the 200 clubber list for brevity, but wanted to mention once more (special
mention, of course) that my Kalabasa teammate Desi the Desimator logged a 206
game: way to go!
PROS.
These
folks logged three games that averaged at least 15 pins over their previous
averages:

Scores = 141, 147, 194. Luyang Nagpaluha, bow!

of Patola: Week 3 avg was 171 (139 previous). Scores = 140, 189, 185. Wow!

Blue! Blue! of Mustasa: Week 3 avg was 180 (157 previous). Scores = 170, 207
(!), 163. Cha cha cha!

of Kalabasa: Week 3 avg was 169 (148 previous). Scores = 164, 206 (!), 139. Kala-Booyah, dear teammate!

of Labanos: Week 3 avg was 169 (148 previous). Scores = 145, 181, 183. Good show!

Jon
of Sitaw: Week 3 avg was 158 (138 previous). Scores = 166, 162, 147. Hanep!
·
Chona
of Patani: Week 3 avg was 120 (101 previous). Scores = 120, 152, 89. Great job!

Ed
of Labanos: Week 3 avg was 134 (119 previous). Scores = 130, 112, 161 (!). Way to go!

Nonoy
of Luya: Week 3 avg was 180 (157 previous). Scores = 170, 207 (!), 163. That’s the Nonoy we know!

Grace
of Mustasa: Week 3 avg was 140 (127 previous). Scores = 141, 149, 131. Amazing, Grace!
Our TEAM
OF THE WEEK truly outdid themselves, and amazed us all, not only making the
onions cry and pulling off a commanding sweep, but each team member scored 15
pins or more above their average. The
Tomatoes have turned pro! Congratulations
to Team KAMATIS, our TEAM OF THE WEEK!

Paolo scored 205, 223 and 201. Previous
average was 192, Week 3 average was 209, a 629 series. Super wow!
·
My
former Philly Pins teammate Giovie had ultra consistent scores of 133, 138 and 137
against her previous 121 average. Ata
girl!

Super
Seminole Raul logged scores of 164, 167 and 147 against his previous 141 average. Go Noles!

no Lucky Ticket (50/50) raffle for Week 3.
