It
was our last week in regulation play for the 2014 Philly Pinoy Mixed Fall
League (MFL) this past Sunday, November 9, Week 10 for the MFL, and it was a
mad, mad scramble for improved team rankings and chances for individual prizes
this upcoming Super Bowl Sunday. Rambolan at skarambolan, patok!
Team
Papaya’s opponent for MFL Week 10 was Team
Rambutan, with Jun, Rosie and Olee.
Team Papaya was ranked #4 and Team Rambutan was ranked #13 going into
our Week 10 marquis match: we wanted to stay in good money position and they
wanted out of the bottom pronto! New MFLer Jun
“Forever” Young is a constant mention in our Breakthrough Performance and
Shining Star sections of the blog: he is an avid practice partner and a poster
child for continuous improvement, and as a result, he has been consistently hot
and dangerous! Rosie (Rochie) Cainglet used
to bowl with hubby Jon in the Philly Pinoy Annual Winter League at the
Downingtown Palace, but they had not bowled with Philly Pinoy in recent years due to the long
distance (Limerick Bowl is definitely closer for them). It was super fortuitous (pinagtagpo ng tadhana) for us to run into them prebowling for their
leagues when we came to practice at Limerick Bowl one week before our Open
Bowl, which resulted in their joining the MFL this year: good to have you back
to Philly Pinoy Bowling, babalik, babalik! Team Rambutan’s anchor Olee Ramiscal is a veteran Philly Pinoy bowler but a first timer
this year with the MFL. He has been the
anchor of the Chester Splits and BowlDawgs teams in the Philly Pinoy Annual
Winter League and is definitely capable of explosive play on the lanes. Limerick Bowl appears to have flummoxed him
this year though, or as he has said, as a purist he prefers the real wood lanes
of the Palace (daw…). Here is a photo of Team Rambutan, courtesy of
May Libo-on.
I
had prebowled on Saturday morning due to a scheduling conflict with our
daughter Joey’s participation in Bishop Shanahan High School’s production of
Cinderella. Under pressure to regain the
top slot for female bowlers and wanting to give my Team Papaya an advantage in
Week 10, I was sorely disappointed to struggle so hard and end up scoring
exactly at my average during my prebowl, as I had been hoping and praying for
stellar, BowlStar-like and blog-worthy play.
It was now up to the magnificent Ques, the luck and pluck of the
Rambutan Team, and the bowling gods to determine Team Papaya’s fate!
When
I arrived at Limerick Bowl at around 7 PM, most matches were starting or in the
thick of Game 3. O Diyos na mahabagin, Team Papaya was suffering defeat in the hands
of Team Rambutan! We had taken Game 1 by
a mere 9 pins but we seemed unable to keep up with Rosie, Jun and Olee in Games
2 and 3. Poor James was blaming his
practice session the day before, but it seemed to have benefited Gabriel,
as the Wonder Kid was bowling up a storm,
daig ang tatay niya nitong Linggo, yebah! Game 3 was won by Team Rambutan by a measly 5 pins: 5 pins! Oh the
humanity! I was reminded of the baby
split I had missed in the 10th frame of my 3rd game
prebowl…if only, if only, but it was not to be.
Team Rambutan wanted it more and took the victory from Team Papaya:
congratulations on your awesome play, the battle was well fought!
And
how did everybody else fare in this scramboling, ramboling night? Unbelievable and unexpected outcomes were
resulting in magical changes in rankings, like the shuffling of cards! Team Duhat won three points off Team
Pakwan. Team Suha only allowed Team
Lansones one point (quota daw, sabi ni
Joel D). Team Bayabas took three
points off Team Guyabano. Team Mangga
wins three points against Team Durian. Team
Langka took three points against Team Chico, leapfrogging into third place over
both Team Pakwan and Team Papaya. And
Team Santol with their red hot anchor Jay took three wins off Team Atis, which
drops Team Atis to a #13 ranking but gives them their first winning game in
multiple weeks: they won, they won!
The
MFL Week 10 League Standing Sheet has been posted on the Limerick Bowl website. Here is the summary of Week 10 team standings,
which will be the basis of our position round play in our 2014 Philly Pinoy
Super Bowl Finals this Sunday, November 16.

Here
is the rundown of fantabulous performances for MFL Week 10.
Top
Male Players: Top three players hold
on to their rankings and are poised to receive their well-earned individual
prize money next week: congratulations! Look at those averages, wow!
1. Joel C (Atis) 204
2. Romy (Guyabano) 195
3. Paolo (Bayabas) 190
Top
Female Players: Ramboling, scramboling… Although I had conceded after my frustrating
prebowl play, my scores were enough to gain me back the top spot, wow! Mitchie’s stellar play this week (536 scratch
series!) got her to within 5 pins of Angie (muntik
na!), but Angie holds on to second place.
Go Philly Pins!
1. Jing (Papaya) 159 = 4775 pins
2. Angie (Langka) 158.27 = 4748 pins
3. Mitchie (Mangga) 158.10 = 4743 pins
Here

Angie, Giovie and Jing), courtesy of Jun and Giovie Young. Thank you to Angie for our cool team shirts!
The Philly Pins: Mitchie, Angie, Giovie & Jing
200-Clubbers: The lanes were
not generous this week, we only have four on this list. Our top male players took 2-3 games each,
super-galing! But our Commish is proving
that his star turns in the past weeks were no flukes: he is the real deal,
baby! Yebah ebah ebah!
·
Romy (Guyabano): 226,
201, 204
·
Paolo (Bayabas): 204,
203, 225
·
Joel C (Atis):
211, 220
·
Jay (Santol): 213
PLAYER
OF THE WEEK is Jay
(Santol) who logged games of 176, 150 and 213 (wow!) for a 179 average for
the night against a previous average of 150.
He played well, making marks even while the entire league was watching him! He had a string of strikes going into the 10th
frame of the 3rd game, and we all booed when he left some pins
standing, but he still got his mark and ended with a 213, way to go! I was asking Joel D if Jay will find it hard
to go back to playing at the Palace (Joel started chanting “Palace! Palace!”). Hindi
namimili ng lugar ang kagalingan, naks! Multiple lanes, multiple weeks, multiple stellar
games: way to go, Commish!
SALUTE
TO THE WONDER KIDS: Both our junior players had breakthrough
performances this week! Victor (Duhat)
had a 102 average and logged games of 106, 118 and 134 for a Sunday average of
119. Super amazing, congratulations! Gabriel
(Papaya!) had a 116 average going in and scored 123, 115 and 153 (!) for a
130 average this Sunday. Go Wonder Kids! Thank you for gracing our league!
BREAKTHROUGH
PLAYERS who logged averages for the
night that were more than 10 pins above their previous average are:
·
Mitchie (Mangga): My BowlStar anchor and
Philly Pin star Mitchie had scores
of 174, 197 and 165 for a 178 Sunday average and 536 series against her
previous 155 average. Way to go!
·
Paolo (Bayabas): He and Romy were keeping up and playing tapatan with each other, their scores
were so evenly matched. Coming in with a
188 average, Paolo had scores of 204, 203 and 225: 210 average, OMG!
·
Jun (Rambutan): His hot streak continues as he scorches Team
Papaya with scores of 177, 149 and 129 against 132 previous average (151
average for the night). Walang patawad, galing-galing!
·
Edwin (Suha): He
continues to amaze every week! Coming in
with a 159 average, he had scores of 179, 181 and 172 for a 177 average for the
night. Wow!
·
Romy (Guyabano): His tapatan play with Paolo resulted in scores of 226, 201 and 204 against
a previous average of 193. He truly is a
dominating Bowlinator!
·
Jon (Mangga):
Wow, bow! Jon had scores of 159, 165 and
196 for a 173 average this Sunday against a 157 previous average. Hanep!
·
Giovie (Durian): My Philly Pin teammate was most
improved with scores of 131, 123 and 160 (!) against 122 previous average (138
Sunday average). Superstar!
·
Jojo (Lansones):
With a 140 average coming in, he had a
155 average this Sunday with scores of 140, 165 and 160. Awesome!
SHINING
