Week 11 of the 2014 Mixed Fall League
It was our Super Bowl Finals: super lamig!
After ten weeks in regulation, it was time to decide
The worthy teams and players who would claim their
prize
In the Limerick Bowl Party Room we came to share
A Filipino feast, a gastronomical affair!
Our palates were all happy, our bellies well fed
It was supreme yummy dalisyousness, it must be said
Let
me just pause to say that I absolutely loved the puto pao, the buchi, the “lechon”, the pancit, the biko, the meatballs, the champorado…OMG, we outdid ourselves, super
talap talap! For a millisecond, I was torn between bowling
and just eating all night long, but you know me well, kaya nga millisecond only, eh.
How about that Party Room? It was
all set up for us, no pawis power
required! They love us, and we love them
back! Oh and the fruit basket from May
Libo-on with all the fruits from our 2014 MFL team names: supreme genius! Did we ever find out who ate the atis?
(Lansones daw…ay, match-up pala yon).
After
eating and a quick discussion of the game plan for the night, the players
proceeded to prepare for practice to begin at 5:45 pm. As practice time wound down, the matches started,
with the exception of the battle between Teams Guyabano and Chico, our top two teams,
who waited to start so the rest of the league could witness the conclusion of
their last game.
After synchronized practices, the games were on
As the night progressed, precious points were lost and
won
The adrenaline was contagious, we were all abuzz
The matches were exciting, what a night it was!
The
matchups for the 2014 MFL Super Bowl, and the outcomes and outstanding
performances thereof, are hereby
presented through official photographs taken by our resident photographer May
Libo-on during our Finals Night.
2014
MFL Super Bowl Matchup: #13 Atis vs #14 Lansones
The
Battle at the Bottom occurred on lanes 35 and 36 between these two beleaguered
powerhouse teams. With both teams
already slated to take home $30 ($10 per player), it was pride that was on the
line, a chance to rise above the bottom and not be the last place team. Team Lansones started strong, taking Games 1
and 2, but Team Atis fought back to take Game 3. Team Lansones won the match and the #13
ranking, making this the second year in a row that my GoPapa Joel’s MFL team
finishes in last place (kawawa…). Here are the noteworthy performances from
this match-up:
·
Lanie (Lansones)
had stellar games of 159 and 161.
·
Joel D (Lansones) had scores of 160, 203 (!) and 244 (!) for a 192 average for the
Finals against a 179 average going in (14 pins above average).
·
Lolet (Atis) logged
scores of 145, 105 and 175(!) (146 average), playing 16 pins above her 130
average.
·
Jojo (Lansones, not Bayabas) was 19 pins above average with scores of 180, 170 and
132 against a 141 previous average.
·
My GoPapa Joel (Atis) had the highest series of the Finals (672 series, 224
average for the night), with all 200+ scores of 223, 205, and 244. Truly amazing, truly stellar, I’m his number
one fan.... GoPapa!
2014
MFL Super Bowl Matchup: #11 Duhat vs #12 Rambutan
This
match, held on lanes 33 and 34, looked like a true survival of the fittest, a
painful struggle till the end: matira ang
matibay. With the exception of a
couple of stellar games from Victor
(Duhat) (126!) and Rosie (Rambutan) (170,
yebah!), all scores from both teams were mainly at and below each player’s
average. Limbo Rock (limburak), anyone? How low can you go and still pull off a
win? Game 1 went to Team Duhat, Game 2
was a dead tie, but with Team Rambutan running off with Game 3 with a huge
advantage, the match goes to Team Rambutan, winning the $36 prize for the #11
team ($12 per player). Team Duhat takes
home $30 ($10 per player) and ends the season ranked #12.
2014
MFL Super Bowl Matchup: #9 Durian vs #10 Bayabas
Wow,
this matchup, which was held on lanes 31 and 32, had it all: 200 clubbers,
shining stars and players turning pro, galing! Team Bayabas came on strong and took Game 1
but Team Durian came back with super strong performances to take Games 2 and 3
and total pins. Team Durian holds on to
the #9 spot and takes home $42 ($14 per player) while Team Bayabas remains at
#10 with a $36 prize ($12 per player).
All players had noteworthy performances, bravo!
·
Mila (Bayabas) had a 124 game, Desi (Bayabas) had a 169 game, and July (Durian) had two 183 games: shining stars!
·
Giovie (Durian)
had scores of 129, 142 and 162 against a 124 previous average. Her 144 average for the Finals is 20 pins
above her previous average. Go, my
Philly Pin teammate!
·
Paul (Durian)
had scores of 145, 202 (!) and 164 for a 170 Finals average against a previous
average of 148: that’s 22 pins above average.
Wow, the Bowlinator secret weapon has been unleashed onto the MFL, yeah!
·
Proving once more
why he is one of our top Philly Pinoy bowlers, anchor Paolo (Bayabas) logs a 214 average for the night with scores of
206, 224 and 214 (wow, wow and super wow!) against his previous 190 average (24
pins above average). Wow…(reduced to
monosyllables…)
2014
MFL Super Bowl Matchup: #7 Suha vs #8 Mangga
Fight,
fight, fight! This matchup was held on
lanes 29 and 30. It was close, it had
ups and downs, it had dramatically good pickups and some heartwrenching letdowns.
In the end, it came down to who was hot, and who was even hotter. Game 1 went to Team Suha, as Edwin (Suha) logs a 203 game:
yeah! Game 2 was close but Team Mangga
grabs the point with all players playing above their averages. Team Mangga continued its hot streak into Game 3,
winning the #7 ranking and taking home the $45 prize ($15 per player). Team Suha takes 8th place and
takes home $42 ($14 per player).
·
Stellar games
were logged by Edwin (Suha = 203), Jon (Mangga = 171) and Mitchie (Mangga = 173 and 170).
·
Eden (Suha)
had a 128 average going in and scored 143 (I love you!), 156 and 146 for a 148
Finals night average (20 pins above average).
Galing!
·
Derek (Mangga)
made his team very happy with his scores of 154, 156 and 146 against a 124
previous average. That’s a 152 Finals
average, 28 pins above his previous average.
When you’re hot, you’re hot! Bow…
2014
MFL Super Bowl Matchup: #5 Papaya vs #6 Santol
Our
opponents were out for revenge since they lost in our previous match. Playing on lanes 27 and 28, Team Papaya could
not hold on to their #5 ranking and was seriously thrashed and tremendously
outplayed by a scorchingly hot Santol team: Jay was unstoppable, Alice was
unbelievable, Ed was a rock solid
competitor. There were moments of sheer
brilliance from the magnificent Ques, James and Gabriel the Wonder Kid, but we
were rendered powerless against Santol’s relentless onslaught: concede,
concede! It was a sweep, waliswis kawayan. Take your prize of $60 ($20 per player) as
the #5 team, dear worthy opponents in Team Santol. Team Papaya is happy to be #6, taking home
$54 ($18 per player).
·
Stellar single
games were logged by Gabriel (Papaya = 125), Ed (Santol = 156), Jing (Papaya = 190), and my secret anchor James
(Papaya = 216, hanep!).
·
Alice (Santol)
had scores of 141, 205 (!) and 156 for a 502 series and 167 average for the
night against a 151 previous average (16 pins above average). Whoo hoo! She had the highest game (200 Clubber!) and highest series of all female bowlers in the MFL Super Bowl: yebah!
·
Jay (Santol)
continued his hot streak from previous weeks with scores of 189, 168 and 193 against a 153
average. That’s a Finals average of 183,
30 pins above average. Another PLAYER OF THE WEEK banner MVP
performance from our Philly Pinoy Commish: congratulations on such a strong
finish!
2014
MFL Super Bowl Matchup: #3 Langka vs #4 Pakwan
It
was Sotomango vs. Sotomango on lanes 25 and 26, but as the anchors Angie (Langka) and Edmer (Pakwan) struggled to
stay solidly close to their averages, it was their teammates’ opportunity to
shine as they collectively battled pin by pin to take each win. Team Pakwan started strong, winning Game
1 with games above average for all players, especially Ka Iban/Ivan (Pakwan) with a 207, hanep!
Game 2 was a heartbreaking loss by 2 pins for Team Langka, oh the
humanity! Game 3 was no better for Team Langka as Team
Pakwan once more reigned supreme with an 11 pin advantage. With a sweep, Team Pakwan garners the #3 spot
and takes home the $120 prize ($40 per player).
Team Langka takes #4 ranking with
a $90 prize ($30 per player, not bad!).
·
Stellar games
were logged by Chelo (Pakwan = 145) and Rico (Langka = 200). Yebah!
·
Rolly (Langka)
had scores of 124, 167 and 121 for a Finals average of 137 against a previous
123 average (14 pins above average).
Excellent!
·
Ivan (Pakwan)
was amazing with scores of 207 (!), 151 and 174 against a previous 156
average. That’s a 532 series and 177
average for the night (21 pins above average).
Fantastic!
With
the exception of Teams Durian and Bayabas, the matches resulted in upsets by
the lower ranked teams. The scramboling
and ramboling from Week 10 continued, but with even more at stake! Here is more poetry before I recount the
outcome of our MFL Super Bowl title match.
We knew exactly what we were all fighting for
But who knew that it would be a night of upsets
galore?
All eyes were on our top two teams, so evenly matched
As their destinies were decided, we cheered and watched
Team Guyabano courageously tried to defend
But Team Chico dominated and won in the end
2014
MFL Super Bowl Matchup: #1 Guyabano vs #2 Chico
Our
title match was held on lanes 23 and 24.
Exciting, nail-biting, riveting, unbowlievabowl… Bragging rights and $40 more per player were
on the line as the match ebbed and flowed and stayed close, pin by pin. Game 1 went to Team Guyabano by less than 30
pins, as their rampaging Bowlinator anchor Romy
logged a 257 game. Winner! Team Chico
rebounded in Game 2 with a 50 pin advantage, bolstered by a stellar 190 game
from Dennis. Pow! Game 3 remained neck and neck until Romy got
a split in the 4th frame. He
and Chona continued to struggle. In the
end, a 197 game from Marlon could
not prevent Team Chico from stealing the top spot, as amazing Grace scores 166 and Blue Blue Blue
logs a 225 game to clinch the MFL Title Match.
Team Chico is #1 with a $300 prize ($100 per player). Team Guyabano settles for 2nd
place after leading for most of regulation play, taking home a $180 prize ($60
per player). What an amazing show from
our top teams. Bravo, bravo!
·
Shining stars
with stellar games from this matchup are Marlon
(Guyabano) with a 197, Dennis
(Chico) with a 190, and Grace
(Chico) with a 166. Super galing galing!
·
Romy (Guyabano)
had the highest scoring game of the MFL Super Bowl with his 257 score in the 1st
game. Way to go!
·
Blue (Chico)
had scores of 204 (!), 171 and 225 (!), a 600 series and 197 average against a
previous average of 178, playing 19 pins above average to clinch a win for Team
Chico. Blue, blue, blue! What a show, what a show…. It’s the magic in those anting-anting shades!
So
many fantabulous performances and so many exciting matches! The final team rankings for the 2014 MFL,
together with outcomes from our Super Bowl Finals Night and results from
regulation play to Week 10, are summarized in this table.
