9/29 Redemption: SISIG vs BALUT

Tonight's Philly Pinoy Mixed Fall League (MFL) marquee match-up was another Battle at the Bottom on lanes 19-20 between my beloved Team BALUT and the formidable Team SISIG, with Lolet and her two anchors, Romy and James.  Lolet had prebowled so we missed her tonight.  Romy and James had their fatigue green team shirts on, while Edmer, Lowen and I had our Cory Yellow shirts on: LABAN, mga kapatid!  Makibaka, huwag matakot!

The lanes were still being oiled at 6:45 pm, so we relaxed and made chika.  It was Desi's birthday, and he and Alice brought in a yummy Filipino feast for us all.  We sang the birthday song to him and he promptly danced and gave us a big smile.  Happy Birthday, Desi!

Desi's Team TAPSILOG was up against #1 Team DAING in the Almusal Battle match-up on lanes 15-16.  Next to us on lanes 17-18 were my GoPapa Joel's Team GOTO against Team ADOBO = delicious combination!  On lanes 11-12 were Team LAPU-LAPU and Team PISBOL = the Palaisdaan Battle.  The Giyera de Patani of Compendio vs. Compendio was to be raged on lanes 13-14 with Team MONAY going against Team KROPEK.  Exciting night!

It is intimidating playing with such great players such as Romy and James of Team SISIG.  Since Team BALUT is hungry for a win, we all wanted to play well.  I think I felt the pressure (and lack of practice due to flu this week), and can only describe my performance in the first game with one word: karumaldumalButi nalang my GoPapa Joel calmed me down, dahil nagdadrama na ako sa bolingan with matching cry-cry at lumuluhaluha *hikbi* sa kasamaan ng laro = couldn't hit spares, couldn't control the ball, couldn't catch a break and ended up with a 115, which is 50 pins below my 164 average!  I recovered a little by the end of Game 1, so happy that Edmer was playing an awesome above-average game, and Lowen was getting some good spares and strikes.  Even with Romy and James not hitting their averages, we got beat by 33 pins.  Game 1 goes to SISIG.  Fight, BALUT, fight!

The noise was up around lanes 15-16 as Game 1 of the Almusal Battle against Teams TAPSILOG and DAING was decided in the last frame with Angie winning it for TAPSILOG by two (2) pins!  Unbelievable!  Hanep talaga!

Tuloy ang laban ng SISIG at BALUT.  Lolet's prebowl score for Game 2 was 20 pins above her average.  We all struggled with the lanes, with Romy and James playing close to their (very high) averages.  Lowen played at his average and I finally got closer to my average, but Edmer continued to play above average = so proud of how we all continued to fight!  We lost Game 2 to Team SISIG, but we were getting our groove.  Feeling good....

Lowen started off Game 3 with a strike = yebah!  Edmer was playing a clean game, and I started out clean as well.  Of course, Team SISIG was keeping up with their share of marks.  Then Lowen just continued to bowl up a storm = hanep talaga, galing galing! And Edmer was throwing his share of strikes!  I got the curse of the open frame but then won the 50/50 raffle = $33, baby!  Ibalik ang suwerti!  As I finally gave up on my Spinderella ball and switched to my Beast Ball, the marks started coming and I got a double.  BALUT was pulling away from SISIG: Game 3 was going our way.

And at the final frame, we continued to fight, hoping to close the gap on total pins as well.  As the final pins fell, redemption finally came BALUT's way = TIE, BABY!  We got Game 3 and total pins and split wins with Team SISIG.  I love you, my teammates, we did it!  Edmer was above average all night, and Lowen bowled a 149 while I finally hit my average on Game 3.  Nabuhay ang Sisiw sa Loob ng BALUT!  Babangon ang BALUT!  Malalagut kayo sa BALUT! Yebah evah evah!

SO for some unofficial results for tonight:

  •  Teams MONAY and PISBOL are tied on top with 11 wins a-piece.  Needless to say, the Giyera de Patani was won by Chelo of MONAY against Roy of KROPEK = binudbod daw sa MONAY ang KROPEK, aray ko!  And the Palaisdaan Battle was won by PISBOL = in-escabeche nila ang LAPU-LAPU!
  • Team DAING split wins in the Almusal Battle against Team TAPSILOG and holds on to third place.  The rest of the current unofficial rankings are provided here.

Team # TEAM RANK CURRENT   Wk 4

  • Folks that completely "turned pro" this week and played at and above  (WAY ABOVE!) their averages all night long in every single game are Atit-PISBOL, Ed-LAPULAPU, Lanie-DAING and my awesome teammate Edmer-BALUT.  Ang gagaling ninyo = bow, my friends!
  • Folks that had stellar single games 20 pins or more above average (200 clubbers and "turned pro" folks excluded) are Sansu-PISBOL (122 and 130!), Edwin-MONAY (173!), Angie-TAPSILOG (178!), Jay-DAING (177!), Grace-ADOBO (151!), Blue-ADOBO (164 = sandbagger ka pa rin, mahal kong fellow bowlcoholic....), Eden-GOTO (154 and 151, idol!), Ryan-GOTO (170!), Lolet-SISIG (112!), and of course my very own teammate Lowen-BALUT (149!).  We see sparks of bowling genius showing, my dear fellow bowlers, it is so great to see y'all improve!

Remember to watch out for the official results on the Palace website.

Till next blog, I'll see y'all on the lanes for practice.  Bowl, baby, bowl!

9/26 Three Team Singalong + Winter League Quiz

Now for the karaoke part of our program, it is Team Singalong Time!  I realized that I only wrote a song for the PISBOL vs BALUT match but had no songs posted in the blog for other matches, hmmm....  So since I am stuck in bed, bawal magbowling dahil may trangkaso, and delirious with McNeil OTC drugs (shameless plug), here are some songs for your enjoyment.

Here is a snippet of a ballad (in the tune of Binibini) in memory of our Week 1 sweep in the hands of Team LAPU-LAPU.

LAPU-LAPU
Naks ang gagaling niyo
Kami'y napipighati
Tsambers si Mitchie
Si Dennis ang tindi
Si Ed ay naka-ngiti

BALUT humataw
Subali't nabotaw
Edmer, Lowen at Jing
Inescabeche man din
O kay saklap
O kay saklap
Na ma sweep ninyo...
*hikbi*

Last Sunday's Battle of the Bottom Feeders was won by Team KROPEK.  The tune of VST & Company's Legs Legs Legs had been stuck in my head, with the syllable PEK...(kuha niyo?). Don't worry, the actual lyrics are rated G.  I have to thank Ka Ayban (Ivan!) of Team TAPSILOG for providing inspiration for the second verse:

Team KROPEK
Si Roy, Alice at JP
Team KROPEK
Sa labanan sila'y matindi
Team KROPEK
Alias nila ay KILAWIN

Team KROPEK
Subukan mang durugin
Team KROPEK
At sa palabok ay iha-in
Team KROPEK
Killer-WIN ang gagawin!

*hikbi ulit*

I used the bridge for Cyndi Lauper's Girls Just Wanna Have Fun for the SISIG Anthem.  Looking forward to our Sunday matchup.  Hope I am well enough to play!

SISIG, Team SISIG
Romy, Lolet, James = Team SISIG
Sila ay makikisig, Team SISIG
Sa bowling masigasig, Team SISIG
Magkakapitbisig!

Of course this pahabol blog has a quiz.  Since there are only 3-4 more months before our annual Philly Pinoy winter bowling league starts (yes, exciting!), this quiz ties the MFL players with their teams in the AWL (annual winter league = not an official acronym, for blog use only!).  Hala, I have increased the level of difficulty, pang-graduate school na ito, ha!

Hint: Check out the postings on the Philly Pinoy website and earlier posts on this blog for answers.  Or just find the answers at bottom of the page.

1.  How many AWL teams have three players in the MFL?  Name the team(s) and the three players from each.

2.  Which female MFL players were AWL team captains?

3.  Name the BOWLINATORS that are MFL team captains, and their corresponding MFL team names.

4.  Who is the defending champion of the AWL?  Which core members of this 2013 winning team are NOT playing in the MFL?

5.  Name the AWL team that Paolo (PISBOL) was in.  Who were his teammates?

6.  Name the AWL team of Joel D (DAING) and Francis/Atit (PISBOL).  What are the names of the other players in their team?

7.  2014 will be the nth year for the AWL.  Who is the Commish of the AWL?

8.  How many Philly Pinoy Bowling Committee members are NOT playing in the MFL?  How many Committee members are playing in the MFL but are NOT team captains?

9.  How many and which MFL teams contain players that have all played in the AWL before?

10.  How many former AWL teammates are also teammates in the MFL?

BONUS BOWLSTAR QUESTION:  Give the names of Jing's balls (yes, my bowling balls have names):
  • purple and red Ebonite Cyclone
  • yellow and pink DV8 Misfit
  • purple and pink Tropical Breeze (nakabanko ito)
  • hot tamale red Spare Ball

Until this Sunday, stay safe and keep healthy.  Bowl, baby, bowl!

ANSWER KEY:

1.  Five:
  • BOWLEROS ( Dennis-LAPULAPU, Desi-TAPSILOG, Art-MONAY)
  • LORDS OF THE LANES (Joel-GOTO, Roy-KROPEK, Ivan-TAPSILOG)
  • BOWLDAWGS (Jay-DAING, Lino-ADOBO, James-SISIG)
  • BOWLERINES (Grace-ADOBO, Alice-KROPEK, Lanie-DAING)
  • BOWLSTARS (Mitchie-LAPULAPU, Chelo-MONAY, Jing-BALUT)

2.  Grace-ADOBO (BOWLERINES), Angie-TAPSILOG (HALL OF FRAMERS), Jing-BALUT (BOWLSTARS)

3.  Romy-SISIG, Blue-ADOBO

4.  BOWLEROS:  Non-MFL player is Carlo Ola.

5.  BOWLCOHOLICS! Love that name!  Paolo's teammates were Joy Quimbo, Raul Quimbo, and Bicoy DeLeon. Ed Nicolas was their sub but he did not get to play.

6.  bALL IN: Other members are Nonoy Rocero and Eric Alvarez.

7.  It is Year 5 for our Annual League.  Our Commish is Jay-DAING!

8.  Zero Bowling Committee members are not playing, are you kidding?  We are all bowling addicts!  Four Committee members are not team captains (Desi-TAPSILOG, Edmer-BALUT, Commish Jay-DAING and Madam Prez Mitchie-LAPULAPU). FYI, six Bowling Committee members are MFL team captains: Dennis-LAPULAPU, Angie-TAPSILOG, Joel-GOTO, Romy-SISIG, Blue-ADOBO, Jing-BALUT.

9.  FIVE = KROPEK, TAPSILOG, GOTO, DAING, ADOBO.  Wow, sana yan yung ulam kanina, talap!

10.  NONE, galing ano?  When it works, it works.

JING BOWLSTAR BALLS:
  • Spinderella purple and red Ebonite Cyclone

9/22 Battle at the Bottom: KROPEK vs. BALUT

The Philly Pinoy MFL (Mixed Fall League) marquee match of tonight is KROPEK (currently ranked next to last at 9th place) vs. BALUT (ranked last).  It is the Battle of the Bottom Feeders: who will be left at last place?  Hmmm....

It is an interesting week for the MFL with a total of ten (10) planned absentee bowlers.  Most teams should have a quick, short night against some prebowl or blind scores.

  • Susan Sanchez - PISBOL
  • Edwin Sanchez - MONAY
  • Paolo Quimbo -PISBOL
  • Ivan Masanga - TAPSILOG
  • Ryan Ablaza - GOTO
  • JP Tanedo - KROPEK
  • Roy Compendio - KROPEK
  • James Que -SISIG
  • Chelo Compendio - MONAY
  • Mitchie Masanga - LAPU-LAPU = actually played tonight

Apologies for delayed arrival of Capucaos after encouraging everybody to show up at 6:30 pm.  Had a busy schedule this weekend...  Let us still try to make it by 6:30 pm next week if possible.  Thank you!

Back to our marquee match for tonight, our spotlight team,Team KROPEK, is comprised of our VP Roy Compendio as team captain, lady bowler Alice Deo and previous league bowler JP Tanedo (we missed him this past winter, but he played in 2012).  They had two wins and tied against Team TAPSILOG on Week 1, when they wore their tiger red team shirts, but were beaten soundly by an explosive and uber-impressive team performance by Team DAING last week.  They are raring for a win, especially after I vetoed their request for a change in team name from KROPEK to KILAWIN (Killer-Win)....

Team KROPEK (L-R):  JP Tanedo, Alice Deo, Roy Compendio (Photo courtesy of May Liboon)

Team BALUT fought hard but could not get its groove tonight against Alice's awesome play coupled with Roy's stellar prebowl scores.  We struggled to meet our averages, although our potential showed = keep fighting!  Alas Team BALUT is sadly still in last place as we were soundly swept by Team KROPEK.  Na-walis ni Alice. We took care of her, she played so well against us!

Playing right next to us was the DAING vs. GOTO match: Battle of the Joels.  The two Joels were bowling up a storm, throwing strike after strike.  There was a lot of good bowling going on in that pit from each player, exciting!  Alas the formidable DAING team prevailed.  The GOTOs had a 600 series and still lost, wow.  Stellar job, Team DAING: Joel, Commish Jay and Lanie = galing galing niyo talaga!  DAING is hot hot HOT, daing!

Now for some OFFICIAL RESULTS:
  • Top Teams are now DAING, MONAY and LAPU-LAPU.
  • PISBOL is in fourth place with 7 wins.  GOTO, TAPSILOG, and KROPEK are in the middle with 6 wins and 6 losses a-piece.
  • Bottom Teams are ADOBO (8th), SISIG (9th) and BALUT (10th).  I guess next week's SISIG vs. BALUT match is another Battle at the Bottom *sigh*
  • 200 clubbers are Paolo (222 and 219), Joel D (221 and 201), Joel C (243 and 215), and Romy (215).  My Go Papa Joel's 243 is the highest single scratch game in the league to date = yebah!
  • Top male scorers (highest individual averages to date) are Paolo (206), Romy (201) and Joel C (188).
  • Top female scorers (highest individual averages to date) are Jing (164, sinuwerte...played slightly below average tonight), Mitchie (156, great night!) and Chelo (151, she held on while her blind scores played).
  • Best live performance by a couple tonight is won hands down by the dynamic Deo duo: Alice had a 157 average for the night and is now 4th female scorer with league average of 150, while Joel D is now a 200 clubber and the 4th top male scorer with 178 average.  Hanep!
  • Best prebowl performance by a couple is from our rookie couple, Edwin and Susan.  Galing niyo, nananalo ang mga team ninyo sa ganda ng laro niyo kahit wala kayo!

Since we were out of raffle tickets and there was limited player attendance, we raffled a complimentary $10 Wawa gift card tonight. Francis/Atit (PISBOL), playing all alone against Team ADOBO with prebowl scores from teammates Paolo and Sansu, was the owner of the lucky ticket. Congratulations!

As our prebowlers and regular practice patrons at the Palace have realized and come to know, the freshly-oiled, USBC league lane conditions, that have resulted in pretty awesome play on Sunday nights, are hard to find on a regular week night at Palace. The closest you can come to replicate these lane conditions is on a Friday night on the inner lanes (lanes 21-40), after 4 pm on a weekday (just oiled for league) and on Saturday and Sunday mornings.  Regardless of lane condition, you will find your fellow MFL bowlers practicing on Tuesday, Wednesday and Thursday nights after 9 pm, and on Friday nights from 6-9:30 pm just before the lights go off.  So come join us for practice!

We are looking forward to having most of our bowlers back next week.  Till then, check out the official league standing sheets posted on the Palace website

See y'all at the lanes: bowl, baby, bowl!

9/21 Ladies Spotlight + Trivia Quiz

For our MFL pahabol blog of this week, I am putting the spotlight on our ladies.  They make up 1/3 of the league, but were the basis of forming each team, like the backbone that supported the structure of the league.

In keeping with the quiz format, I will describe each of our ladies and you should try to guess who they are.  Answer key given below:

  1. Grand Dame of a Philly Pinoy bowling dynasty.  Super athletic, competitive, focused.  Plays volleyball and ping pong.  A true Pinoy Achiever.
  2. First ball smells like raspberry, second ball goes all the way to Coatesville.  Female 200 clubber in this winter's Philly Pinoy bowling league.  Also a USBC 200 clubber.
  3. Second generation bowler, who attributes her bowling is-kills to "tsambers".  Two-time USBC 200-clubber.  Currently has higher bowling average than her husband.
  4. Future Grand Dame of the next Philly Pinoy bowling dynasty, grooming her two kids to be champion bowlers (hopefully with scholarships!).  Ping pong champion and fashionista = bongga and kanyang purple gear!
  5. The only left-handed lady bowler in the league.  Shoots her 12-lb ube ball with pinpoint accuracy.  Super-consistent.  Idol!
  6. The dalagang Pilipina bowler, dropping her yellow and blue ball with ultimate finesse and delicacy.  Played 50+ pins above her average last week = hanep!
  7. New bowler in the league with her husband, has been wanting to join Philly Pinoy bowling for a while.  Loves pink, and has a pink ball and pink shoes = love it!  Slaughtered us last week with her awesome prebowl scores.
  8. New bowler in the league, was very impressed by her two teammates (two anchors!).  Very athletic, played volleyball with the ZCatZ team two years ago.  Runs, played with an injured leg last week.  Hope you feel better already!
  9. Her loose free-flowing swing is the envy of many.  Deadly accurate, focused, consistent.  Armed with a new red gadget (naku, more deadly, patay kang bata ka!).  Her husband thought it was libre, napilitan lang daw siya.
  10. Ang team niya ay itlog, mahilig siyang mag-blog.  Bowling addict, ballroom dancer, poetic (!). Pinaglihi ang anak sa itlog.

Just for added fun, here is another MFL trivia quiz:

A.  How many couples (husband and wife players) are playing in the MFL?  Name them all!

B.  Name the wives whose husbands are not playing in the league.  How many are they?

C.  Name the single (unmarried) men in the league?  How many are they?

D.  Name the husband of our 50/50 Raffle Queen.

E.  How much is the cash prize for the first place team?

Folks, we will be raffling off a $10 WAWA gift card as an additional prize during our 50/50 raffle this Sunday.

Good luck to the nine prebowlers, we should get done early this weekend!

Enjoy and see you Sunday: bowl, baby, bowl!

9/15 Battle of the Sidewalk Vendors: BALUT vs. PISBOL

Team BALUT was up against Team PISBOL in Week 2's Battle of the Sidewalk Vendors.  Sisiw kayang labanan ng maaligamgam na BALUT ang matitinding PISBOL na naisawsaw sa laway ng bayan?  But before the games could begin, we had some business to take care of.

The Team Captains and Bowling Committee discussed proposals regarding the Week 1 results.  Here are the details for interested parties (others can skip to the other juicy parts of the blog):

  • If you may recall, Week 1 play was conducted at 80% handicap as entered incorrectly at the Palace, but all league scores were corrected to 90% handicap per league rules.  This changed the outcome of the ADOBO vs. DAING matchup from 2.5/1.5 to 2/2 in the league standing sheets.  Much appreciate the careful thought and generosity (naks) of our dear Commish Jay, to provide as solution the deduction of one point from his week 1, game 3 score, in order for the calculations to more accurately reflect the real-time outcome of the match.  If your can understand why this works, hats off to you, you have super utak-brains = bow.
  • An additional quirk of the calculation included the fact that the league averages are only based on games played within the league, so the previous Philly Pinoy averages were not included in the average calculation.  This is a lesson learned to be incorporated into future league rules: the previous average and handicap was used to create the teams and in the scoring for Week 1 but will not be reflected in league average.
  • There are still a couple of errors in the league standing sheet that we are actively working with the Palace to correct, e.g. Team 7 = Daing.

It was a WONDERFUL sight to see everybody with their Filipino shirts on!  Of course, we all had fun posing in all different permutations and subgroups: shirts with maps, shirts with same design, groups maskipops, everybody together now!  Nice shirts, y'all, looking good!  Thank you to Mary Ann for the beautiful pictures, posted on the Philly Pinoy Facebook page.

PHILLY PINOY MFL players in Filipino shirts

Parang nag-usap ang Team BALUT: we all somehow ended coming in with white shirts on.  Looking good, mukhang suswertihin but we were up against Team PISBOL's formidable Paolo (last week's high scorer with his 242 game), the always smiling and consistent Francis/Atit and Sansu's prebowl scores (missed you, San!).

TEAM PISBOL (L-R):
Francis/Atit Carangan, Susan/Sansu Sanchez, Paolo Quimbo

And boy, was it an epic battle!  We never seemed to be able to catch up on the first game - galing ng prebowl ni Susan!  And with Paolo and Francis so strong and consistent, we had no chance even though Edmer, Lowen and I played close to our averages.

From Game 2 onwards, my Team BALUT found a secret weapon in Lowen's hot hand. Strikes and spares, oh me, oh my!  Galing galing, such awesome play!

I came close to a 200 game with a 192, and with Edmer and Lowen fighting back and fighting hard for every pin, Team BALUT rallied to win its first game and earn its first point: nakaisa!  We lost the match but gained one win and played well - may pag-asa pa, pitong gabi pa ang labanan at nagsisimula pa lang kaming magpakitang gilas!

It was great playing with Team PISBOL, winner of the Battle of the Sidewalk Vendors.  Galing galing!  So here is the song for the night, sang to the tune of "Balut Penoy Balut":

BALUT, team kong BALUT
Sana nama'y di maitlog ang BALUT
Dahil si Edmer, Lowen at Jing
Kahit laro ay kay galing
Hanggang ngayon ay
Nangangarap pa ng WIN

PISBOL versus BALUT
PISBOL kay galing, sus, nakakayamot
Si Sansu ay gumawa
Paolo at Francis walang awa
Kaya Team BALUT
Ngayon ay nakakaawa...

So for some OFFICIAL RESULTS (updated 9/18):  The league standings are available on the Palace Website.

Top teams are MONAY, DAING and ADOBO.  Great play, teams!  Naghahabol lahat sa naghihintay na limpak-limpak na salapi!

Top male players based on two-week average are Romy (SISIG, 208 average), Paolo (PISBOL, 203 average) and my own Go Papa Joel C (GOTO, 186 average).

Top female players based on two-week average are Jing (BALUT, 167 average) and tie between two players with 151 average: Mitchie (LAPU-LAPU) and Chelo (MONAY).  Go, my IncrediBOWL BowlStar teammates!  We are winner!

Our 200 clubbers are Romy (SISIG, 238 and 213), Joel C (GOTO, 224), Art (MONAY, 224), Paolo (PISBOL, 212 and 200) and Lino (ADOBO, 201).  Hanep!  Balang araw, mabibilang din ako sa inyo, yebah!

Outstanding performance by a team where all players performed well above their averages goes to Team DAING with Lanie, Jay and Joel D.  To give a snap shot of their super fantabulous performance, their individual highest score games were 171 from Lanie (99 average), 178 from Joel (161 average) and 181 from Jay (139 average, this was the highest score in the pit!).  Wow, when a whole team collectively adds almost 60 pins to their average, it is amazing!  Well done!  And apologies to Team KROPEK for being the victim of that performance.

Super-duper players that had games 20+ pins over their averages included the following:
  • Ed (LAPU-LAPU, 141)
  • Lowen (BALUT, 161)
  • Ivan (TAPSILOG, 175)
  • Eden (GOTO, 150)
  • Edwin (MONAY, 182)
  • Sansu (PISBOL, 125)
  • Blue (ADOBO, 181)
NOTE: This list does not include the top players, 200 clubbers and outstanding team players from Team DAING - nabanggit ko na kayo, iba naman ang babanggitin ko!  We are improving: galing galing!

My performance was instantly blogged - I am a happy BowlStar.

The winner of our 50/50 raffle was Art who got $34 from the pot.  Magaling na ang laro, winner pa ng raffle, suwerti!

Team BALUT (ranked last) will be up against Team KROPEK (ranked next to last) next week.  It is the Battle of the Bottom Feeders: Sino na naman ang mas galit at mas sabik manalo?  Abangan!

Till next week: bowl, baby, bowl!

9/13 Kickoff Quotables + Team Quiz

I wanted to try something different to capture even more highlights from the kickoff of our Mixed Fall League, and to check how well you know the players and teams within the league.  Enjoy!

So many highlights, and so many outstanding performances!  The league standings are now in the Palace website
  • Top spots go to Teams SISIG, LAPU-LAPU and MONAY.
  • Top male players are Romy (SISIG, 214 average), Paolo (PISBOL, 207 average) and James (SISIG, 182 average).  Proud of my GoPapa Joel who had a 176 average!
  • Top female players are Mitchie (LAPU-LAPU, 169 average), Chelo (MONAY, 168 average) and Jing (BALUT, 161 average).  Proud of Grace (ADOBO): 130 average, baby!
  • Our 200 clubbers are Romy (all games above 200), Paolo (has two 200+ games and highest scratch score of 242), Dennis (LAPU-LAPU, 223) and Edmer (Go BALUT! 211).

As with previous BowlStar blogs, here are highlights of my team's matchup for the night.  Team BALUT (Team 2) was up against Team LAPU-LAPU (Team 1) on lanes 11-12.  Dennis, Ed and I started out hot, Edmer and Mitchie started out slow.  Lowen was consistent throughout the night, slowly getting his groove (may potential!).  Once Edmer found his line he played an awesome game (211 and 196 in games 2 and 3, 172 average, galing!).  Mitchie and Dennis were unflappable and unstoppable, and with Ed playing 30+ pins above his average and Mitchie showing how a true clutch player she was in the 10th frame of the third game (strikes to seal our coffin!), we were swept 4-0.  Excellent play from LAPU-LAPU, now the #2 team.  Na-itlog ang mga BALUT, but I am so proud of our performance, we did our best, kept on fighting and rolled some good games!

Team BALUT (L-R):
Edmer Sotomango, Jing Capucao, Lowen Gono

Team LAPU-LAPU (L-R):
Dennis Navarrete, Mitchie Masanga, Ed Nicolas

A few more notes before I sign off, from my email messages related to the League Standings on the Palace website.  We are continuing to iron out kinks with the scoring with Palace.  I LOVE that the players on this league are so passionate about the league, that they are scrutinizing the scores and standings.  Please do not ever stop double checking and raising questions = we need to watch the scores like hawks!

HANDICAPS/OUTCOMES: I apologize for having to rescind my previous statement that the scores from last week with (incorrect) 80% handicap will stand and Palace will correct handicaps to 90% moving forward.  Only one handicap can be applied to scores for the entire league/season. This is due to the limitations of the program that Palace uses, which is USBC-based. Since our league rules specify 90% handicap, the 90% handicap needed to apply to all weeks. Bad news is that the DAING (Team 7) vs ADOBO (Team 8) matchup was impacted by the difference in handicap, such that the 2.5/1.5 nail-biting and super-exciting outcome from last Sunday was changed to a 2/2 outcome. We can discuss this more on Sunday.

AVERAGES: The league standing reflects individual averages for the night (over three games), which do not include the previous player averages which were the basis for Week 1 handicaps and team formation.  Based on the limitations of the scoring program, the current averages may need to stand, as league averages are typically based on games played within a given league/season.

SCHEDULE: Please note that the Lane Assignments given for "Today" in the League Standing Sheet reflect the schedule for this coming Sunday. This is because the League Standing sheet usually is given on the following week of play = you will find paper copies (one per team) on the lanes this coming Sunday.

Congratulations to Edwin Sanchez who won $45 from our 50/50 raffle.  This is the highest prize we have given for this raffle EVAH!  This also means we have an additional $45 for cash prizes for the league. Buy your tickets next week, you can be the next lucky winner!
